Over Half Way!

What a month, and what an amazing effort by my friend and family.

We started with a target of $350, and it looks like we're going to surpass $3000!!

Thank you all so much!

For my part, I'm moving as much as time allows, and averaging 12.8km of active distance per day (as opposed to nearly 17km including passive movement)

The way I see it, we exceed the donation target, I exceed my movement target? I'm now on track to walk over 320km through Feb!

While these are big numbers, and they are fun to talk about, the reasons for all of this are much darker, and the numbers are much larger. Every month 86 kids are diagnosed with cancer, and countless others are impacted by this shit disease. Last year alone, $58000 was needed just to provide the 2400+ counselling sessions. Add this to the canteen camps, rec days and programs, the online resources and Youth Cancer Services team, and the scale of work CanTeen does really comes into focus.

There is no donation to small (or big, for that matter) so please dog deep as we close out the last 10 days of this fundraiser!

Day 10!

I know I haven't posted much this week, with Kirstie's surgery (she's now recovering beautifully at home?) but I have definitely kept to my walking pledge!

I've added more than 65km to my tally since Monday! (Remember, these are "workout" KMs, not just passive KMs based on steps, there's a difference??)

The donation page has performed exceptionally well, too with over $1200 raised so fast!!

Well that took an unexpected turn

Day 3 #cardio4cancer

Easy done today, with a short walk this morning and another 7km before dinner but.....

No-one tells you how fuckin expensive getting fit really is??

7 weeks ago I bought a pair of expensive ASICS, and they were bloody comfortable... But they are totally worn out now after 690ish KMs (820,000ish steps)?

So new pair of shoes (Salomon x-raise2 Goretex, of you don't mind?) today, which I chucked on for the first time 5 minutes before the 7km walk, and no issues breaking in, great shoe imo!

TARGET SMASHED!

Today is day one of my #cardio4cancer fundraiser challenge, and already, the target about had been smashed by almost double!

I started out wanting to raise $350 for the awesome CanTeen charity, and in return, pledged to walk 10km a day, every day this month.

Well, I've just upped the donation target to a cool thousand bucks, because the original target is so far in the rear vision mirror?

In return for the higher target, I'm going to push for a couple extra KMs over the month... So instead of 280 total KMs, I'll round it up to 300 for the month!

Now, where did I put those extra hours I'll need every day????

23,000!

Did you know that 23,000 young people aged 12-25 are impacted by cancer every year in Australia?

CanTeen offers support to each and every one of them, and they need our help to do it.

I'm going to walk 23,000 steps tomorrow, that's one step forward to get each of these affected kids the support they need.

Why I'm doing this...

Fuck Cancer.
On the 28th June last year, my wife, my best friend, and the absolute love of my life, Kirstie, was diagnosed with Advanced Localised Rectal Cancer. (Holy shit... That was a bad day)
The kindest, most loving human I've ever known began a horrific journey of chemo, radiation and surgery. She suffered through lonely hours of infusions, and painful, invasive, and life altering treatments. She lost the ability to work, she lost her independence, she lost a bit of hair and even a whole toenail... But on Monday January 9th this year, she fuckin beat it! She's cancer free, and shows every indication that this terrible blight will soon be a memory best forgotten.
This was Kirstie's fight, and she fights hard and dirty, but the impact rippled throughout our entire network, and especially our kids. They're older now, but were still offered the support of the many services CanTeen has to offer.
Now that Kirstie's war with this shithouse illness is almost at an end, I'm reaching out to all of you to help CanTeen continue to do the amazing things they do.
In return for your donation, I'm going to get my fat arse moving, and walk for 10km a day, every day in February. I promise that I'll start enough to make your donation worth it? (if we hit my donation target, I swear to not take my top off for gratuitous photos?)
